OMEGA Speedmaster "Dark Side of the Moon" wins Revival Watch Prize

The Revival Watch Prize is, according the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), presented to the best watch presented in any of the competing categories to feature a contemporary re-edition or reinterpretation of an iconic historical model.

Accepting the prize in Geneva was OMEGA's president Stephen Urquhart who said, "It is particularly gratifying to accept this incredible recognition for the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’. It honours the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional, of course, but with its blend of ceramic materials and Co-Axial calibre, it has also beautifully introduced the chronograph to a whole new generation.”

The OMEGA "Dark Side of the Moon" is a striking reinterpretation of the iconic Speedmaster Professional "Moonwatch". It is distinguished by a black ceramic case and dial and is powered by the OMEGA Co-Axial caliber 9300, the first of OMEGA's in-house Co-Axial mechanical movements to incorporate a chronograph function.

The watch has two sub-dials instead of the three associated with its famous ancestor. The 12-hour and 60-minute counter hands are placed on the same sub-dial at 3 o'clock allowing for an intuitive reading of the recorded time.

The name of the Speedmaster "Dark Side of the Moon" honours the Apollo 8 astronauts, who in 1968 were the first people to see the far side of the moon with their own eyes. Notably, each was wearing an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional.

More details about the Speedmaster "Dark Side of the Moon" can be found by following this link.

Introducing The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic

Confirming the timepiece’s unique status are the words “World Premiere” engraved on the caseback, along with the limited edition number. The sapphire crystal on the caseback allows an unobstructed view of the OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 8615 at the heart of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic. This exclusive OMEGA Co-Axial mechanical movement is fitted with a Si14 silicon balance spring.

Adding to the watch’s striking appearance are the 850-grade platinum Liquidmetal® numerals, division lines, inner ring and triangle on the bezel.

Beneath the domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, the sand-blasted 950-grade platinum dial complements the orange ceramic bezel ring and the dazzling platinum case. “Pt950” is engraved above the centre hole, identifying the material of the intriguing dial.
Along with the facetted 18K white gold indexes and central hour - minute - seconds hands, there are the 6 – 9 - 12 numerals, GMT applique and the central GMT hand that rotates once every 24 hours in orange aluminium. This useful complication can be used with the rotating bezel to help you keep track of the time in a second and third time zone.

The watch features an integrated orange leather strap with platinum stitching and a 950-grade platinum foldover clasp. An orange rubber strap is also delivered with it along with a special tool to change it.

The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic wristwatch is water resistant to 60 bar (600 metres / 2000 feet).

This remarkable timepiece is delivered in a special wooden presentation box, with a full four-year warranty.

IWC Grand Opening Beijing

IWC Schaffhausen Unveils New Flagship Boutique, Adding a Star to the Beijing Sky

IWC Schaffhausen celebrated the opening of its Flagship Boutique in Beijing, China recently. Friends of the Brand and selected guests were among those in attendance at the spectacular un- veiling ceremony in the Parkview Green Mall, followed by the premiere of an IWC Portuguese  Sidérale Scafusia dedicated to Beijing, an evening to remember.

“Our new Flagship Boutique, now the second in Asia, takes IWC’s watchmaking heritage to a new level,” explained IWC CEO Georges Kern. “We are proud to celebrate this occasion with our distinguished guests and to honor the im- portance of the Chinese market with an exclu-
sive timepiece”.

Parkview Green, a new mall in the heart of Beijing’s central business district, is setting new standards in both form and function with the use of innovative environmental tech- nologies, enabling, among other achievements, the establishment of a microclimate  beyond the influence of Beijing’s extreme seasonal cli- mates. IWC invited 200 guests to join them at Parkview Green for the boutique’s grand
opening event. For the inauguration, guests gathered on the bridge in front of the fully covered Flag- ship Boutique to learn more about IWC’s mile-stones of innovation, an exhibition featuring ten watches from the years 1874 to 2000.

Sustainable Architecture Meets Innovative Design

The architecture of IWC’s third Flagship Boutique is just as exceptional as its surroundings. The facade of the approximately 300 square-meter, bi-level glass cube is an eye-catcher in its own right. A brainchild of in-house designers and architects, the signature interior reflects
the luxurious ambience of IWC’s collection. Fitted out with sumptuous dark woods and exquisite materials, the Flagship Boutique creates an elegant atmosphere that invites customers to explore the six fascinating watch families along with boutique-exclusive editions, and the IWC
Collection, only available in Flagship Boutiques, and made up of innovative, hand-picked items and accessories as exquisite and outstanding as the watches themselves. (click on photo to enlarge)

A New Star Is Born

In addition to its one-of-a-kind  environment, the IWC Flagship Boutique Beijing, which is the second Flagship Boutique in Asia, features a
world premiere and not only for aficionados of Haute Horlogerie: a room dedicated to a star in IWC’s history, the Portuguese Sidérale Sca-
fusia. The pinnacle of mechanical and engineer- ing skills in the art of astronomical timekeeping today combines over 500 components, from the patented constant-force tourbillon escapement to the wheel train, culminating in the display of solar and sidereal time, twilight, sunrise,
and sunset, and the constantly changing view of the visible stars and constellations from the customer’s own horizon.

To mark the special occasion, IWC created a Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia room with a celestial chart on the case back showing the Forbidden City’s horizon. The new Flagship Boutique will be home to this master- piece, which reflects IWC’s founding principles: creating innovative watches with technologies ahead of their time, while always respecting sustainability and heritage. The combination of tradition and innovation deeply rooted in IWC’s multifaceted timepieces has now found a worthy new home in one of the world’s most ancient capitals.

Following major renovation work, Cartier is re-opened its Milan boutique in the historic building that has been its home for over 30 years at 16 Via Montenapoleone.  An exclusive reception was held on 5th October with Italian Film Stars in attendance including Monica Belluci from The "Matrix".
The building, with its sober, refined architecture, dates from the early 19th  century and today has four floors. It has been reinterpreted by Bruno Moinard, the architect and designer entrusted with the creation of all the Cartier boutiques in the world.
This extensive project was inspired by the desire to turn the various rooms and the building as a whole into an elegant, pleasant location with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The furnishings and interior decoration of the new boutique’s four floors of have strong cultural, historical and artistic associations connected to both the city’s cultural heritage and to Cartier traditions.
Considered one of the Maison’s flagship boutiques along with Rue de la Paix in Paris, New Bond Street in London and Fifth Avenue in New York, the Cartier boutique in Milan is destined to remain a highly prestigious address.

Luxe Fall Fashion Preview

This Fall...The Look Is LUXE And More Is More
(browse the bottom of this blog post for clothing photos hand seleceted by the editor as our favs)

In previous seasons, the word ‘embellishment’ alone has sufficed, but to convey the new level of the trend’s autumn/winter 2012 incarnation, it feels like an understatement of vast proportions. This season, forget adding a few studs and a splash of sequins in an effort to jazz up garments: jackets, trousers, skirts, even humble shirts and t-shirts, have all been utterly drenched  in  the  luxury  of  jacquard  fabric  and  showered  with  the adornment of jewels, gems and metals. Fashion magpies will rejoice at the news that wearing more than one embellished item at once is to be encouraged: “maximalism” is the order of the day as the tasteful ‘less is more’ diktat is momentarily discarded.
The look’s fiercest incarnations were seen on the AW12 runways at Balmain, which took inspiration from the decadence of Fabergé eggs, and Dolce & Gabbana, where the most luxurious of fabrics (leather, lace, velvet, satin) were piled    up    with    heavy    gold threading and jewels. Valentino offered  a  softer,  more  folk- inspired version of the trend, with    jacquard detailing reminiscent   of  Russian Dolls,   while  at  Chanel there  was  a  futuristic take  on  the  look  with metallics,  angular  crystals and a bold jewel color palette. The key to working  this  trend successfully  is to keep  silhouettes classic and structured. Clean lines will allow the embellishment to do the talking and keep the look sleek: note the skinny trousers and understated shirts that were layered with the more decadent pieces at Balmain.
Luckily for fashionistas on a budget, the high street has whole-heartedly embraced the trend giving you this luxe look and life for less.
River  Island   has  nailed   it  with  a  heavily embellished  and embroidered  collection  that could be taken straight from the AW12 catwalks. At a glance, the t-shirts could be Balmain, while the trouser suit will have you simultaneously working the masculine trend. Mint Velvet has updated the classic tux jacket in the spirit of the season’s luxe look,  while  Diamond  by  Julien Macdonald at Debenhams has taken inspiration from Dolce & Gabbana with this showstopper dress that will become a wardrobe staple come party season. And for statement jewels that can be layered up to add  a unique edge  to your embellished ensemble, check out Boticca and Accessorize.
For autumn/winter 2012, the look is luxe, and more is definitely more.
